Insignificance
A thought.
The paradox of having a blog both private and public at the same time. For most typical people, a blog is the equivalent of an online diary. Same old boring, everyday shit. Why is there a need to publish it for everyone to see? Why not keep it in a private, written diary?
People say ‘oh I only want my blog for some people to see lol’, or, when ripped, they say ‘it’s PRIVATE OK’. I think it masks an underlying desire to be significant, to want to be famous, to be known to the world. So you won’t be one of the other faceless 500 that dies on June 5th, 2080. There is a need to make an impact upon the world, because of your insecurity of your own self, that you need people to boost your image, to let people know that you exist.
Yet, the consequences of being famous always falls on deaf ears, or ignored. Tabloids pop up, or when you make a controversial stand and people don’t like what you say, or saying something that can be classified racist or homophobic or whatever because you’re a SON OF JESUS ZOMG. If you want to be famous, you have to take up the consequences that come with it. I think people desire to have blogs to make themselves known, but at the same time, when they recieve the slightest bit of attention (positive or negative), they throw a hissy fit and they’re going to MOVE TO ANOTHER URL K THANKS 4 NOTHING.
I don’t think I’m looking at bloggers in a negative way, seeing as I blog myself… And I do know that I am afraid of insignificance. Instead, it’s the human desire to be someone in this world, that one looks up to, to prevent oneself being lost in this era of globalization and increased population and technology. And perhaps a simple blog fufils at least a small portion of that desire.
