Beauty and the Beast… in KL

While I’m racking my head for a final point to stick in my political science paper so that I can make it to the minimum of the stipulated 8-10 pages, Dad emailed me to know that Beauty and the Beast will be playing in Kuala Lumpur from 24 June to 3 July. Ashley Oliver plays Belle and Matthew Cammelle’s going to play the Beast.

(Not like I really know who these people are, at any rate. I have a boot of the entire cast from some UK Tour, and I just know Matt played someone in Phantom of the Opera, which is about all there is.)

… I’m not actually sure if I want to go. I’ll certainly be in Singapore when it comes, and a car drive to KL isn’t that bad, but ugh. I don’t want to stay at my relatives’ place again (I don’t like them. My second aunt keeps harping all over the fact that I’m “pleasantly plump”, and I just hate my favourite aunt’s husband. HE STOLE HER FROM ME. It’s been 11 years and I STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN OVER IT), and I just don’t want to travel any more than I have to.

I don’t know why, but Dad has lots of things in store for me when I come back to Singapore, and one of them is TRAVELING. Maybe I haven’t told them that a 20 hour flight is probably enough to last me 6 months, but dear GOD. I’m flying back to Singapore because it’s SINGAPORE, not to go somewhere else! He’d probably go to KL for this if I said yes, he’s taking the entire family to Angkor Wat (against my mother’s will, and probably my sister’s) and in September, he’s flying off to Paris for a conference and I’ve agreed to go with him.

I’ve seen the production for this one before as well - it’s the one where gas shoots up and voila human Beast. It’s not the actual Disney production, and… I dunno. I don’t feel like it’s worth going. The parents (who haven’t actually seen anything on Broadway) are going to just get a different impression, and God knows if I try to explain to them that it’s a different company staging the same Disney show, we’d all wind up angry and confused.

Wishlist

So there are a couple of things that I want. I don’t go for the cheap ones, for I am not cheap… my stupid mind works that way - to get the most possibly expensive piece of shit that I can never afford. My brain sucks.

Armani’s Beauty and the Beast (Around $2400)
Giclee’s “For the Love of Beauty” ($1170)
Mystical Kingdom of the Beast ($1700)
Armani’s Belle figurine ($700)
John Alvin’s “Bittersweet Embrace” (Around $460-$700?) Don’t like this one so much. I saw it in the NYC Disney Store and I LOL’ed at EMO!Beast.

I probably won’t get any of these until I… y’know, actually have a permanent house to live in, because the art pieces need to be hung, and the figurines actually need displaying, instead of being kept in a box. Speaking of which, the Beauty and the Beast poster seems to be misplaced in my Singapore home. I’m trying not to panic, but… Christ, I’m worried.

My BatB merchandise, let me show you it

I have a bunch of other things, but I got lazy. So I took pictures of the more memorable (and expensive) stuff that I got.

Poster

This was my first purchase of anything that was expensive. This is an original theatrical release poster when the movie first came out. It’s in brilliant condition, double sided, etc. Sigh. I’m going to frame this up eventually, when I get a house that allows such things. In the meantime it’s sitting in this big reinforced tube in my room in Singapore. I hope my parents haven’t thrown it away.

YES IT’S SWEET VALLEY BOOKS AS PAPERWEIGHT, Y U ASK?

Watch

BROADWAY WATCH! Limited edition, etc. Came with a cert of authenticity and everything. It’s dead now, but it’s still collectible.

Doll

This isn’t exactly a limited edition, but well, I bought this doll when I was at NYC, when I was super excited about everything Beauty and the Beast. You can see a bit of water damage to the edge on the right side of the box… that was because we were WALKING IN THE DAMN RAIN. Ugh. There’s a Broadway poster and a plastic rose below the box, but I got lazy. :)

Book

An OOP book about Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, and I paid a lot for it too. It was my first purchase when I came to America (hee)! It’s kinda sad that this is OOP… I do love this book lots.

Puzzle

If anyone saw the older posts, this one should be familiar. It’s a puzzle of Belle, and this is the picture. Her face still looks wonky, but everything else is just gorgeous. I haven’t gotten around to finishing the puzzle… because there’s no place to frame. Guh.

CD

My most recent purchase (which was in December, I think). A limited edition of Music Behind the Magic, signed by Alan Menken and Tim Rice. And with everything that is collectible, I don’t touch it. So the CDs are still inside, NEW AND SHINY, and I feel kinda sad that it’s a waste of money, in a way.

Money money money

So I’ve decided to splurge on:

1. The OOP 2-disc platinum version of Beauty and the Beast (still shrinkwrapped and security sealed, according to the seller), so that’s one investment. The stupid thing is that I’ll never open it. It’s a collectible now! Have you seen the insane prices the DVD’s going up on Ebay?
2. Dirge of Cerberus.
3. And possibly Amadeus, if I find a new copy that’s selling for 9 bucks or below (I’m such a cheapskate).

I’ve taken a double and triple listen to Disney on Classic, and well, I’ve decided against buying it. Half of it sounds like restaurant music, the other half seems to be ripped directly from the OSTs, and only a handful of songs sound nice.

Sorry for the multiple posts,

But I found this too funny to pass up. I found it on this post at Fandom_Wank, which was a gold mine for macros.

Belle puzzle

Despite the oddness of the face, I did like this a lot. The style of painting struck me particularly.

Bought it for SGD$65. Hope it won’t go to waste.
