Danrom, part zwei
Another reason why I really, really, really need a vacation: I’m falling ill. I haven’t been sick in 3 years, and that last illness was during the A’ Levels. There’s finals week to go, so… yeah.
Anyway, my Behavioural Neuroscience final exam was today, and I feel a bit annoyed by the whole thing because it ended earlier than my other classes (I STILL HATE YOU, PHILOSOPHY). That was my favourite class, and I mean, the professor was absolutely brilliant. I’d honestly take his class again because he’s just that damn good. Meanwhile, Philosophy is the very last exam of the quarter, and GOOD GOD, I HATE YOU.
Wait, let me translate this into PL.
UD: Everything
Hxy: x hates y
Lx: x is the last exam of the quarter
Px: x is a person
e: Elaine
p: Philosophy 250 course
(?e)(?p)(Pe & Lp) ? Hep
I have a headache, and I’m taking today off from studying. I’ve been compiling my music in Excel for some chillaxin’, AND HERE ARE MY RESULTS THUS FAR:
I’m sure nearly everything labeled Tokyo Disneyland was by Jac. xD Also, Jac, YOU’RE SO MEAN TO GIVE ME 64KBPS MP3S!!! D:
Lastly, a couple of fun facts. FFX-2’s Paine is voiced by Gwendoline Yeo. Turns out she’s the niece of Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs George Yeo (if Wikipedia is to be believed). I have lots of TL;DR thoughts on this, not least about the elitist structure of Singapore and how all our ministers seem to be educated abroad, but whatever.
Number 2: James Arnold Taylor, who voices Tidus in FFX, voiced Jack Sparrow and Timon in KHII. I wanted to LOL so hard. JACK SPARROW IS TIMON O SHIT
Danrom
A couple of thoughts.
1. I realized the reason I didn’t like Atonement that much was because it was too deliberate. The camera’s presence was too obvious, and I was spending my time watching the positioning and being aware of the camera instead of the movie itself. I mean, that 4 minute shot of the beach just screamed I HAVE A CAMERA HERE. I was so distracted by the filmmaking techniques I wasn’t as involved in the story as it should have.
2. Grudges. I have them.
3. I really, really, really need a vacation. I feel burned out.
Beauty and the Beast… in KL
While I’m racking my head for a final point to stick in my political science paper so that I can make it to the minimum of the stipulated 8-10 pages, Dad emailed me to know that Beauty and the Beast will be playing in Kuala Lumpur from 24 June to 3 July. Ashley Oliver plays Belle and Matthew Cammelle’s going to play the Beast.
(Not like I really know who these people are, at any rate. I have a boot of the entire cast from some UK Tour, and I just know Matt played someone in Phantom of the Opera, which is about all there is.)
… I’m not actually sure if I want to go. I’ll certainly be in Singapore when it comes, and a car drive to KL isn’t that bad, but ugh. I don’t want to stay at my relatives’ place again (I don’t like them. My second aunt keeps harping all over the fact that I’m “pleasantly plump”, and I just hate my favourite aunt’s husband. HE STOLE HER FROM ME. It’s been 11 years and I STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN OVER IT), and I just don’t want to travel any more than I have to.
I don’t know why, but Dad has lots of things in store for me when I come back to Singapore, and one of them is TRAVELING. Maybe I haven’t told them that a 20 hour flight is probably enough to last me 6 months, but dear GOD. I’m flying back to Singapore because it’s SINGAPORE, not to go somewhere else! He’d probably go to KL for this if I said yes, he’s taking the entire family to Angkor Wat (against my mother’s will, and probably my sister’s) and in September, he’s flying off to Paris for a conference and I’ve agreed to go with him.
I’ve seen the production for this one before as well - it’s the one where gas shoots up and voila human Beast. It’s not the actual Disney production, and… I dunno. I don’t feel like it’s worth going. The parents (who haven’t actually seen anything on Broadway) are going to just get a different impression, and God knows if I try to explain to them that it’s a different company staging the same Disney show, we’d all wind up angry and confused.
Mediamonkey
I’m going to pimp out a media player called MediaMonkey. It’s now replaced iTunes on my computer, because it’s just that good.
Of course, it isn’t problem free… Everything looks kinda cluttered (and a bit ugly, even with the iTunes skin), creating playlists is a bit of a hassle, and I had to install the thing about 5 different times to get it to work properly. But this darling plays FLAC files, grabs tracklists from the Internet, tags my untitled songs, AND syncs with my iPod. That’s way, way, waaaay more awesome.
Writing issues
For all my inability to communicate verbally and being unable to distinguish what’s sarcasm and isn’t, I’m incredibly sensitive to the way people write. It’s the way people phrase their words that ticks me off the most, and sadly, I’m never able to properly rationalize why a certain style of writing makes me so angry. It’s not a pattern of phrases or something that seems quantifiable… It’s just there. It’s not the content that makes me angry, but it’s just the way they write it.
I haven’t seen a pattern emerging yet, but what seems to be the general types that sets off my annoyance meter is 1. attempting to sound superior when you’re just wanking off on purple prose, and 2. the inability to understand your own phrases when you write and the general tone it conveys (usually a sense of smugness and ignorance).
Strangely enough, I’ve long since been numb to the “haizzzz…….. ~*i luv him worxxxx*~” epidemic that pervades almost any Singaporean teenage blog, and if actually given the choice, I would prefer to read that rather than someone who is incapable of understanding the choices she makes with her words and the negative impression associated with it (okay, that was a fairly long sentence). From my perspective, that style of writing, at least, lends itself to a stream of consciousness, and at least I can get a fairly decent understanding of what she is trying to convey. For the latter, stringing together a bunch of fancy words or unable to understand that the phrases you just used is indicative of your ignorance, it doesn’t make me understand you at all; you don’t understand those words, you don’t understand the tone those phrases convey, and I just get an incredibly bad impression.
I’ve had to comment block people on LJ of the simple fact that their way of writing (even just a meager sentence) made me irrationally angry. I choose not to read blogs like these because it’s not of what they write, but how they write it (yes, Azrul and Azrul-clone-stash-God-hides-in-his-cupboard).
Self-awareness: It’s a good thing, guys.
Singapuraaaaa
There really hasn’t been much to say lately, except that I’m now swamped with research papers to do by the end of next week and I’ve completely lost my motivation to study. The usual depressive phase has passed, but I have to say I’m really, really, really looking forward to taking a long summer break back home.

A 20 hour flight, which really isn’t all that bad, considering my last flight was 28 hours long (YEAH GO CHASE THAT CONTINENT BITCH). I kinda wish I had a smaller laptop, though. This one’s big and heavy, and it’s gonna be a bitch getting this through customs. Also, yay for new US state on stopover. I’ve had Oregon, Illinois, Minnesota and now Michigan.
I don’t really like Japan’s airports all that much… If I did have a choice, I’d rather have a stopover at Hong Kong than Japan. It’s more user friendly, from my perspective. 3 more weeks! YAAAAY
