Wee Shu Min saga
Yeah, just to captialize on her infamy.
I don’t know what’s worse - her comments or the people who responded to her. You have two completely different areas. She posted elitist remarks (and Good God, shouldn’t a person from RJC know how to capitalize?), but the people who responded to her were just awful. People went to say things like ‘I hope you get struck by lightning’ or ‘I hope you get AIDS’ or ‘If I had a daughter like you I would commit suicide’. They had to insult her physical appearance. Can these things be taken as death threats (any lawyers around)? If even if they could, do Singapore laws actually allow us to prosecute such matters? (And I’m sure she’ll win; her father’s an MP, for goodness sake.)
It’s strange reading all these comments, where people are bashing her for being elitist, when Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong believed that the government can only run with an elite class. You can take any quote from Lee about running the government and it’ll be instant elitism. Why didn’t Goh’s wife get any death threats when she said 600,000 was ‘peanuts’? Hypocritical much? Or maybe some people might scream entitlement - people in power can say whatever they want? Well, isn’t that harbouring a sense of elitism as well?
So what, you leave alone people in power, but when a politically powerless girl (like you) comes boasting about her elitism, you jump on her like tigers?
